    Letter to parents re SRS and parental survey on Safe Routes to school to be completed by October 30th Decision on Global Goal of focus- Poverty. Climate Action Week October 11th -17th Every child to make a pledge Speed Survey Friday October 8th Registered for the Environment Anti-litter and waste The Environment Litter Less Campaign on October 18th . Certificate received. Article submitted to Cunga Magazine “Green Schools in COVID times.”

    52 Shoe boxes sent to Africa via Team Hope Operation Christmas child on 8/11/2021 8/11/2021 Entry form posted to Irish Aid magazine a Rap by third and fourth classes- Global Goals For All Of Us. 12/11/2021 Completed Gaisce Bulbs For Bees Challenge in conjunction with Ashford Castle planting 1,000 bulbs both around the school and sending bulbs home with the children-crocus’, allium and hyacinth. 12/11/2021 Linda Huxley and her husband visited the school to check the bird box monitors. There were swifts nesting there last Spring. Linda and her husband saw them. They will now take away the call box as the swifts are established here now. There is an interactive panel in the room that the boxes could be connected to. 22/11/2021 Letter sent out to each family inviting every child to participate in the annual Christmas tree decoration competition using recycled items found around the house. 26/11/2021 Safe Routes to School second meeting. Plan in draft form, school sought meeting with local engineer and Road safety officer. 30/11/2021 Linda Huxley visited. Linda checked the nesting boxes. We have two nesting pairs. Boxes 3 and 5 were occupied in Spring. One box was unoccupied. This is very good so early on in the process. We hope to have a lot more next year.

    As restrictions are being eased A Green School Committee appointed - First meeting on 7/2/2022 Items on the agenda discussed Energy saving, turning off the lights when leaving the room. Turning off the White Board when not in use. Litter and waste, make sure to put the correct items in the proper bins. All wrapping from school lunches taken home in the lunch boxes. This is national Scoot To School Week. We are all working together to make our school as green as possible. Air monitoring kit to arrive at the end of the month. All-Ireland Pollinator plan Keeping an eye out for large bumblebee queens that emerge from hibernation. Do we need to plant more herbs in the sensory garden? Early submission winner Our World Irish Aid Awards third and fourth classes sustainable art kit. Air monitoring kit arrived on 28.2.2022 Incredible Edibles Kit arrived 0n 28/2/2022. Woodies voucher for purchasing plants received.

    Daily attention to air monitoring kit. To be put in place on 3/3/2022: Monitoring of school insect population under the National Pollinator Plan Planting of Incredible Edibles in the poly tunnel. Signs of Spring watch out Composting, separation of waste and recycling. Air quality monitoring tubes taken down on 31/3/2022

    Putting compost in the raised beds in the poly tunnel Planting in of the strawberry and potato plants from the pots. Planting in also of cabbage, lettuce, onions, radishes, carrots etc. Use of school compost from the bins to enhance soil fertility. Daily watering of plants and weeding. School Spring clean on 8/4/2022 Return to weekly WOW initiative, leaving the car park at 8:50am Separation of litter and waste. Daily monitoring of energy use and energy saving strategies. 7/4/2022 - The school submission to SEAI.

    Putting compost in the raised beds in the poly tunnel Daily watering of plants and weeding. Weekly WOW. Separation of litter and waste. Daily monitoring of energy use and energy saving strategies. Planting of wild flower seeds in the plantation area. Replanting of window boxes and pot planters Monitoring of school insect population under the National Pollinator Plan Air quality monitoring results to be received and reviewed. Annual Farm Awareness Day with Keith Fahy of Teagasc. Linking in with Mayo County Council on Safer Routes to School Initiative.

    June 7th SEAI energy saving practical workshops for all pupils with Mr Lukasz Krzywon. Daily watering of plants and weeding. Weekly WOW. Separation of litter and waste. Daily monitoring of energy use and energy saving strategies. Monitoring of school insect population under the National Pollinator Plan Children will take home the veg grown in mid-June. i.e. strawberries, potatoes, cabbage, lettuce, peas, beans, onions, radishes, chives, carrots. Linking in with Mayo County Council and Ms Tracey Lydon of An Taisce on finalisation of Safer Routes to School plan.
