Our GS school committee is also our student voice within the school community. We are currently running a 3-D competition promoting our school theme: Global Citizenship - Litter and Waste (See details in the picture below).

Pupils are asked to create a 3-D item from recycled material that is colourful, creative and communicates the theme. Our theme asks us to think about how we can communicate to others a message: How we can positively impact the local / global environment for the benefit of others (assisting with the work of Trócaire such as making a donation, volunteering or spreading the message to help others are examples of how people can help. The 'Our Shoes' charity is another simple but effective way to recycle/re-use and help others less fortunate).

To this end the Green Schools Committee have already initated a number of tasks addressing this theme:

  • Schoolyard tidy after recent storms: tydying litter and waste

  • Trócaire visit and school collection using Trócaire Lenten Boxes

  • 3-D competition promoting the theme: Global Citizenship: Litter & Waste

  • Charity Shoe Appeal: Boys and girls in South African townships benefit from our pre-loved school shoes, sport boots, runners. Pupils can tie together and bring in their shoes (Note: shoes must be clean and in good condition) while also leaving a note to the children who will receive their shoes creating a genuine connection from both sides.
