Members of the Corrib Mask Search and Rescue team recently visited our school to talk about water safety on our local lakes and also to show us their ambulance jeep, rescue boat and equipment including a demonstration of how to manually inflate a life jacket. This was a great opportunity for our pupils to make connections with what they have learnt this year as part of their SPHE programme. Many classrooms engaged with the Water Safety Ireland’s PAWS programme in term 3 which outlines the essential life-saving guidelines that every primary school child needs to know through a series of lessons and safety videos. This was a very enjoyable school visit with some pupils having great fun trying out some of the equipment and hopping onto the rescue boat for a closer look.
